Please find attached this week’s Covid-19 update for Somerset on behalf of the Engagement Board.

Following an announcement made yesterday at a Downing Street press conference, 16 and 17 year olds will soon be invited to have their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. This is great news as the more people receiving the vaccination the better protected we all are.

The national media are also reporting the news we are unfortunately seeing a rise in the number of pregnant women with Covid-19, and nationally some pregnant women are being hospitalised. In part this is because vaccination rates in pregnancy remain low. In the vaccination section of the update we have included important information for pregnant women, and those breastfeeding or looking to become pregnant.

We are also reminding everyone of the need to use our local healthcare services wisely, as our hospitals and ambulance service have come under increasing pressure in recent weeks.
