WELCOME TO ILTON PARISH COUNCIL'S WEBSITE


Ilton is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated 11.8 miles south-east of Taunton, 2.9 miles north of Ilminster and 17.5 miles west of Yeovil. It is in the South Somerset District of Somerset. The village has a population of 854 (at the 2011 census). The parish includes the hamlet of Ilford and part of the hamlet of Ashford.

The village is in the Islemoor electoral ward which stretches from Ilton north to Fivehead via Beercrocombe and Hambridge and Westport. The total population for this ward at the 2011 census was 2,772. Islemoor is part of the Somerton and Frome Constituency; Sarah Dyke is the Member of Parliament.

Ilton Parish Council consists of 9 elected councillors and a part-time Clerk. The Parish Council has responsibility for local issues, including setting an annual precept (local rates) to cover the Council's operating costs and producing annual accounts for public scrutiny. The Parish Council is a consultee for local planning applications and works with the local Police, District and County Council Officers on local issues including highways, drainage, footpaths, public transport, and street cleaning. The Parish Council operates and maintains a Play Park for younger children and a Playing Field with a MUGA, Gym Equipment and Football Pitch for older children and adults. It maintains the closed Churchyard and owns and maintains a Cemetery. It also has responsibility for Brook Green Common which is left as a wild wooded area for nature walks and picnics.

Ilton Parish Council is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to take on the roles of Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) to work alongside our team of Parish Councillors.

Both positions are mostly home based and can be combined as one for the right candidate.

The Clerk role will be for 50 hours per month, to include attendance at Parish Council meetings which are held monthly in the evenings 11 times a year.

The Responsible Financial Officer role will be for 15 hours per month to include attendance at Finance Committee meetings approximately 4 times per year.

There may be requirement for occasional additional meetings or additional hours to meet the demands of the roles.

Starting hourly rate at £15.84 (within salary range LC2 18-23scp).

The Clerk’s duties will include, but are not limited to:

Organising and attending Council meetings, preparing agendas and writing minutes

Advising the Council

Updating the Parish Council website

Maintaining/updating files and documents

Actioning the Council’s decisions

Attending to all correspondence including letters and emails

Distributing relevant information to Councillors

Acting as the Data Protection Officer for the Parish Council

Monitoring planning applications and circulating to the Council

Project Management

Administration of the Council’s cemetery including arrangements relating to burials and memorials.

The Responsible Financial Officer will be responsible for managing and reporting on the Parish Council’s finances, including HMRC PAYE, annual budget preparation, payment of invoices, reclaiming VAT and preparing the accounts for annual audit.

You will need good administrative, communication, IT, numerical and organisational skills and basic financial knowledge for the RFO position. You would need to be flexible in approach and able to meet deadlines. Training can be given. This is a terrific opportunity to work in a responsible professional role from home with flexibility around your own schedule. 

A laptop and printer are supplied and a working from home allowance will be paid.
